The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has launched the official pre online voter registration platform to run until November 6, 2020.
Commission chairperson Essau Chulu has since urged eligible voters in the country to take advantage of this platform to be able to participate in the fourth coming general elections.
Justice Chuulu explained that the first phase of the pilot online voter pre -registration exercise took place from the 18 to the 25 of July 2020 and the second phase, which was the final phase, was held between August 31 and September 7, 2020.
Justice Chuulu says during the first and second phases the Commission received overwhelming response from the young people and various stakeholders.
“As the Commission is facilitating for a more updated voter registration system. We have received overwhelming feedback from the young people who have utilized the first and second phases” he said.
Justice Chuulu said with the online registration of voters underway eligible voters aged 18 years who will not utilize the platform and the mobile registration exercise will not be able to vote next year.
“We encourage all eligible voters to make use of the online platform and the mobile registration exercise that will commence soon if they want to participate in the fourth coming elections” Justice Chuulu said.
He said the mobile registration exercise will commence next month on the October 28, to November, 30, 2020.
Meanwhile speaking at the same event commission electoral officer Patrick Nshidano emphasized that those that will utilize the online platform should present themselves to the registration officer who will then issue them with the card as the online platform is not the final process.
“It is important to mention that those that will utilize the online registration platform should ensure that that they present themselves to a registration officer once the mobile voter registration exercise commences on the 28 October next month to able to be issued with a voter card” he said.
