K1.2 M RELEASED TOWARDS COVID RELATED PROGRAMMES

AN estimated K1.2 million has been released by Government for the purchase of medical supplies.

The funds will also go towards the management of covid-19 patients at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Levy Mwanawasa and Chilenge level one Hospitals in Lusaka.

UTH and Levy Mwanawasa hospitals have each been allocated K500, 000 while Chilenge Level One Hospital has been allocated K200, 000,” he said.

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga revealed the details during the COVID-19 multi-sectoral taskforce meeting held yesterday.

The funds will be spent on enhancing surveillance activities, case investigations, case management, monitoring processes, procurement of medical supplies and community engagement.

The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that the government has released K350, 000 to Lusaka Provincial Health Office for logistical support in treatment and awareness programmes on COVID-19.

The K350,000 will be used to procure thermal scanners, sprayers, contact tracing, check spots, community based care, awareness programmes.

Another K30, 000 will be dispatched to each of the seven districts in the Province for COVID-19 awareness programmes, the purchases of masks, and sanitizers.

The Permanent Secretary cautioned officers at the health facilities to spend the money for its intended purpose and warned that anyone who will misuse the funds will be dealt with accordingly.
