The 7th SOTAMBE International Film and Arts Festival 2020 will be held virtually according Co-founder and Managing Director Martina Mwanza.
The annual event has been caught up in the COVID-19 web and due to health concerns, the organisers have opted to hold the festival via online platforms.
“The 7th SOTAMBE International Film and Arts Festival 2020 therefore consists of online Master classes and pre-recorded Awards Ceremony that will be aired online on local TV and social media sites,” said Mwanza.
The Managing Director noted that the global situation of COVID-19, which has led to a drastic reduction in sponsorship has made the hosting of the biggest film festival in Zambia impossible.
“However, we feel we have a responsibility to Zambian and Southern African filmmakers who submitted their movies to this year edition and who believe in SOTAMBE.
“With almost all film and arts related activities being cancelled this year, we have decided to do what we can. We decided that the festival will be aired online on local TV and social media sites,” Mwanza said.
The Festival has received over 200 movies and 378 short film scripts with 26 of them submitted by Zambians.
